The other was the laundry department. Inspectors who walked through the dirty room, where soiled laundry is handled, found both slop sinks clogged with clumps of lint and debris, filled with plastic hangers, and holding a plastic bag of soiled wheelchair and lift belts. A faucet was leaking. A dirty mop bucket on the floor held plastic garbage, mop covers, and broken mops. The garbage can was open and overflowing. Behind the washing machines, the floor held used gloves, paper, plastic, and more clumps of lint. A sticky black substance had built up around the perimeter. The exhaust fan was heavily coated in lint and dirt.
The clean side of the laundry room, where dryers, folding tables, and clothing racks are kept, was not much better. Dirty dried liquid stains covered the floor. Used plastic gloves were scattered throughout. A large pile of lint sat in front of a dryer. The windowsill, dryer exhaust tubing, and wall fan were all caked in lint. Mechanical lift pads stored on clean linen racks touched the floor directly. A dirty washcloth lay on the floor nearby.
The nursing home administrator confirmed the observations during the inspection.
Inspectors rated the harm level as minimal, though they noted residents faced risk of cross-contamination and exposure to environmental contaminants from both the ice machine and the laundry conditions. The air gap violation alone, inspectors noted, creates a pathway for harmful bacteria to reach ice that residents drink.
The facility was cited under Pennsylvania licensing codes governing licensee responsibility and management obligations.
