Abbey Senior Health: CNA Stole Resident's Debit Card - MO
The resident reported a missing wallet and debit card to staff, who called police on September 8. When an officer arrived, the resident pulled up the bank account on a computer and walked through the charges: $450 to Instant Credit Auto on September 7, $378 to Spectrum on September 6, $139.29 at 5 Below on September 7. The officer called Spectrum and Instant Credit Auto directly. The account information used to make those payments matched the address on file for CNA C, the agency worker assigned to the resident's care.
The facility reported the aide to her staffing agency and told her she would not be allowed back. The administrator, interviewed by inspectors on September 11, described the incident as misappropriation of the resident's property. The facility replaced the resident's wallet and the cash that had been inside it. The bank cancelled the debit card and was in the process of returning the stolen funds.
A police investigation was still pending at the time of the inspection.
The administrator confirmed CNA C would never work at the facility again. What he did not say, and what the inspection record does not show, is whether anyone beyond the staffing agency and local police was ever told that an aide had walked out of a resident's room with their wallet.
The resident's bank was replacing the money. The resident got a new wallet. CNA C got a car payment made.

Data source: This article is based on inspection data downloaded directly from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) via Medicare.gov. CMS releases inspection reports in bulk; we publish the findings as documented by state surveyors in the official Form CMS-2567 Statement of Deficiencies.
Plan of correction: The CMS report we receive does not include the facility's plan of correction. Facilities submit plans of correction separately to state survey agencies and those responses may not be reflected in CMS data at the time of publication. The absence of a plan of correction in our data does not mean one was not filed. Readers who want information about corrective steps taken are encouraged to contact the facility directly or their state survey agency.
Corrections may have occurred: Inspection reports reflect conditions observed on the date of the survey. Facilities may have implemented corrections, staffing changes, additional training, or other remediation since the report was issued. We report what CMS provides and encourage readers to seek current information from the facility.
