A volunteer identified in the report had already seen it. She told inspectors she had heard from a night nurse that a similar substance was also growing in a closet in another resident's room. She said she had reported it to the maintenance man. He no longer works at the facility.
"I would not feel comfortable staying in a room that had something that looked like mold in it," she told inspectors.
The two facility leaders who walked the rooms with inspectors on August 20 both said they had not been aware of the problem before that afternoon. They described what they saw as mildew but said they could not say for certain what it was.
The complaint inspection, completed August 25, cited the facility for failing to maintain a sanitary and comfortable interior. The facility's own housekeeping and maintenance policy, dated December 2023, required exactly that.
