Eventide Jamestown: Call Light Failures Leave Residents - ND
These are the findings from an August 26 complaint inspection at Eventide Jamestown, a nursing home at 1300 2nd Place NE. Inspectors cited the facility for failing to answer call lights in a timely manner for four of the eight residents they interviewed.
Resident E told inspectors that a couple of months before the visit, she had soiled herself in bed and waited almost two hours to be changed. Resident D said staff sometimes forget to give her the call light at all, and when she does have it, help can take half an hour or longer. "One time I waited on the toilet and had to yell for someone to come," she said.
Resident G's account was the most detailed. She said her light had been on for over an hour when staff finally arrived. By then, she had already had an incontinent bowel movement. When she told the aide they could have prevented it by coming sooner, the aide got mad and walked out. Resident G had to wait again for someone to return and help her.
An administrative staff member told inspectors she expected call lights to be answered within five minutes, describing that as her baseline for internal audits. The facility's own Standards of Care policy, revised in August 2024, required staff to respond to call lights in a timely manner.
The gap between that five-minute standard and what residents described, waits of 30 minutes, an hour, two hours, was not explained in the inspection record.
Resident G put it plainly: "Staff run ragged around here and they aren't very nice."

Data source: This article is based on inspection data downloaded directly from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) via Medicare.gov. CMS releases inspection reports in bulk; we publish the findings as documented by state surveyors in the official Form CMS-2567 Statement of Deficiencies.
Plan of correction: The CMS report we receive does not include the facility's plan of correction. Facilities submit plans of correction separately to state survey agencies and those responses may not be reflected in CMS data at the time of publication. The absence of a plan of correction in our data does not mean one was not filed. Readers who want information about corrective steps taken are encouraged to contact the facility directly or their state survey agency.
Corrections may have occurred: Inspection reports reflect conditions observed on the date of the survey. Facilities may have implemented corrections, staffing changes, additional training, or other remediation since the report was issued. We report what CMS provides and encourage readers to seek current information from the facility.
